During the world largest Traffic-Exhibition theer Intertraffic in Amsterdam 27.03.2012 bis 31.03. 2012 the international innovation awards in the categories safety, infrastructure, Smart Mobility, Parken und traffic managment were given to innovative companies.

The Jury nominated in each category 3 companies for the award, Company Langmatz from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany was nominated for their proposal of integrating charging infrastructure for Electric vehicles in the light poles for public lighting.
During the opening ceremony finally Langmatz was selected as the winner in the category infrastructure. The Idea of using public lighting for realizing a new charing infrastructure is not totally new: Already in 2000 a consortia in Berlin started the attemp using that idea but without major success. 2 years ago Langmatz with the scientific support of Fraunhofer Institut IAO from Stuttgart revitalized that idea in a scientific reasearch projekt and combined the proposal with modern LED street lighting. During that research project, which was cofunded by the Germany Ministery of Trade the Engineers from Langmatz and Fraunhofer had been able to develop the charging module in a way that it could be integrated totally to the light-pole. With that design great progress in terms of cost, vandalism-safety could be achieved. Furthermore the design is very favorable to the town-architecture as no additional ´street-furniture´ needs to be installed.

The total concept of integrating a charging module in the LED Streetlight from Langmatz convinced the Jury to award the innovation price to the company from the well-known vacation region in Bavaria out of the group of more then 900 Exhibitors at the intertraffic-fair. In a fi nal selection process Langmatz had to present their concept to the Jury-Team last Monday and the companies CTO, Dr. Andreas Hunscher was able convince that team about the great advantages the Langmatz-Concept could bring to the emobility role out. A day later, during the opening ceremony of the Intertraffic-Fair the prices were awarded to the 5 winner-companies. The Organisation-Team had prepared a nice video summary of the different concepts and companies Kapsch, Imtech, Scancar, 5to4 and Langmatz could come to the podium for picking up the awards. Jury-Leader Prof. Fred Wegmann stated that the Langmatz concept was an outstanding solution for combining nice design and dramatic cost advantages both in product as well as installation cost. Solution like the Langmatz one will be the enabler for a Emobility-role-out in the market.
Already being nominated for the final round was a great succes for Langmatz. The final award is for the Bavarian company a great recognition in their strategy, to combine for the public charging infrastructure street design and cost advantages.
